If you’re trying to import a video from YouTube, you may occasionally run into issues due to YouTube-side limitations. The most reliable workaround is to download the video file and upload it directly to Content Studio.
Before you start
You must have the rights/permission to download and re-upload the video.
If this is your video on YouTube, the easiest method is usually through YouTube Studio.
If the video isn’t yours, you may not be able to download it as a file (and you should not use third-party download sites).

Step 1: Download your video from YouTube Studio (recommended)
Go to YouTube Studio: https://studio.youtube.com
In the left menu, click Content.
Find the video you want, click the three dots (⋮) next to it.
Select Download.
Save the video file to your computer.
Note: If you don’t see a Download option, it may be restricted by your account permissions, the video’s settings, or the type of content.
Step 2: Upload the video file to Gloo's Content Studio
Open Content Studio.
Start a new project [+Add Project] (or open the project you’re adding video to).
Choose Upload video (or drag and drop the file into the uploader).
Select the video file you downloaded.
Wait for the upload/processing to finish, then save/publish as normal.
Common questions
“I want to use the video link from YouTube—why do I need to download it?”
Importing depends on YouTube’s systems and permissions, which can sometimes block or interrupt retrieval. Uploading the file directly is more reliable while we work to improve YouTube imports.
“Can I download someone else’s YouTube video?”
Usually no—and you shouldn’t unless you have explicit permission and the rights to reuse it. If you don’t own the video, consider linking to it on YouTube instead.
“My download is low quality—how do I get a higher-quality file?”
YouTube Studio downloads may not always match the original upload quality. If you have access to the original video file (from your camera, editor, or archive), uploading that original file to Content Studio typically gives the best results.
